2022 was the first outing by 222 Offshore since 2019 due to the impact of COVID-19 on sport and travel restrictions. The 47’ Victory was built in 2008 and first raced in the US in the 2019 season.
Despite the two-year lay-off, the boat performed well under the careful management of Crew Chief Peter “Muddy” McGrath. Muddy stood in as driver for Darren to win with Giovanni at Clearwater. With Giovanni Carpitella on throttles and team owner Darren Nicholson driving, they won the UIM Class 1 title at Michigan City and came second in the UIM Class 1 Powerboat Racing Championship for 2022.
In 2023 the team seriously upped the pace, and after a dramatically successful season, 222 Offshore lifted the UIM Class 1 World Championship in 2023.
They are currently looking for sponsors to help them defend their title in the USA in 2024.
Darren and Giovanni are a successful pairing in UIM X-Cat racing in the Middle East and Europe. Darren and Peter McGrath are also defending their 2023 Australian Offshore Superboat Championship this year.
