Four boats competed in the Stock V class at St Petersburg. Leading from the start was #66 LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness / RevX Oil, piloted by team owner and builder Brit Lilly (Millersville, MD) and throttled by Jay Muller (Lake Hopatcong, NJ). Jay is well known as the throttleman for WHM Motorsports in the Super Cat class.
In second place from the off was #33 North Myrtle Beach RV Resort, with driver Kirk Hanna and throttle Mark Rinda - both from Myrtle Beach, SC. Then came another Brit Lilly LSB boat #99 Twisted Tea, driven by Jim York with Travis Pastrana on throttles. However, at the end of the first lap, Twisted Tea spun out and came to a sudden halt. For technical reasons, they were unable to restart, so the 30-foot Extreme pulled off the course.
By this time, the fourth boat, #21 Shocker, had pulled ahead of NMB RV Resort into second place. The 29-foot Phantom was driven as usual by Chris Colson of Hackettstown, NJ. Chris's throttleman for St Pete was supposed to be Charlie McCarthy, who unfortunately came down with a case of food poisoning. So for this race, Mark Fernandez stepped in. Towards the end of Lap 2, with Shocker closing in, LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness slowed dramatically as its Mercury engine went into guardian mode. This gave Colson and Fernandez in Shocker the opportunity they needed to take the lead, which they held to until the end of the race. In second place, a welcome podium place for Mark Rinda and Kirk Hanna In North Myrtle Beach RV Resort, after technical problems in Sarasota.
