Ivey Grows with Bracket Racing

We decided early last year to work on getting back to running our own boat, with our own team, as we have done in the past. After a successful couple of years racing in Bracket class 500, we really enjoyed the structure and competition in the Bracket classes.

George Ivey has been a regular at Powerboat P1 events for over a decade. He raced in P1 SuperStock for many years with the Visit Jacksonville boat.

George and wife Jeannette also travelled to Mumbai, India, to participate in the 2017 P1 SuperStock World Championship. Halfway around the world, he was racing against familiar faces from the powerboat racing world, including current Class 1 pairing Giovanni Carpitella and Darren Nicholson of Offshore 222 fame.

Back in the US, and moving forward from P1 SuperStock, George teamed up with the Belfattos in the #517 Bulletproof 500 Bracket class boat, where they had several very successful seasons.

Over the last couple of years, he has been driving the P1 Offshore pace boat with Jeannette, so many people reading this will have followed him out to the racecourse.

In early 2022, George decided to go shopping, "We decided early last year to work on getting back to running our own boat, with our own team, as we have done in the past.

After a successful couple of years racing in Bracket class 500, we really enjoyed the structure and competition in the Bracket classes."

They were initially unsure of which class they wanted to race in until an opportunity arose when Jesse Schmig decided to sell his Bracket 600 class boat, #651 Deception.

Jesse campaigned the boat for several years. It was competitive and successful in class 600. Unfortunately, they had an engine failure in the final race at Englewood in late 2022, which delayed the purchase until just recently. Since then, we have been doing engine repairs and other upgrades to get the boat ready to race. Our plan is to debut at the Sarasota Grand Prix.

George continues, "Jesse campaigned the boat for several years. It was competitive and successful in class 600.

In recent years, George and Jeannette have become really good friends with Damon Marotta and his wife, Kelly.

"We have all become part of each other's race "families", says George, "Once Damon learned that we were going to be racing our new boat in class 600, it just felt like a natural fit to have him to be on throttles."

Damon has had a lot of experience and success in both class 600 and 400, where he races with Mark Robins.

The boat will have a new look with an Ivey Racing team logo, as well as their latest sponsor, Dee's Nuts.

The team say they look forward to mixing things up in class 600.
