Jackhammer makes it two out of two

Reese Langheim and Julian Maldonado in Jackhammer S-01 wasted no time in getting back to the front of the second Super Stock race of the Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge in Sheboygan. Today, conditions were much more dynamic than on Saturday.

The first turn resulted in Jackhammer slingshotting around the buoy, still in the lead, followed by Big East Construction S-89, with owner/driver Cole Leibel and throttle Gary Ballough jostling for second with driver John Strama and owner/throttle Billy Allen of Team Allen Lawn Care and Landscaping S-17.

In the first couple of laps, Jackhammer looked on course to repeat its flawless race of the day before. The main contest was between Big East Construction and Team Allen Lawncare for second.

The rough conditions claimed their first victim when LPC S-27, piloted by Anthony Smith Jr. with owner Loren Peters on throttles, skipped a wave awkwardly and landed on another, which flipped up the transom and stuffed the bows. The boat, briefly submerged, started taking in water from an open hatch and retired shortly after. Both the occupants are fine, and the boat didn't appear to have external damage.

Shortly after this, Big East managed to pull away from the tenacious Team Allen Lawncare to take a more secure second place.

As the leaders entered Lap 5, the S-33 Savage team of Marc Granet and Randy Sweers pulled up with technical difficulties, leaving 9 boats still duking it out on the course.

Sean Connor and Shaun Torrente, in Allied S-54, were wrestling for fourth place with Northing Offshore crewed by Darren Kittredge and Grant Bruggeman.

Up in front, Jackhammer nearly followed LPC, taking an awkward wave and managing to avoid a nasty stuffing. The mishap lost Jackhammer the lead as Big East Construction capitalised on their misfortune.

Big East managed to extend the lead to one and a half rooster tails, but Jackhammer managed to reel them in and took their lead back over the next lap.

Behind them, Yesterday's second-place boat, Cocos Monkey S-39 with AJ and Pete Bogino was snapping at the heels of Team Allen Lawn Care, followed by Allied still fencing with Northwing Offshore. Performance Boat Center (S-21) driven by the very experienced crew of Myrick Coil and Rusty Williams, were definitely off their usual pace.

Coming into the final lap, Big East Construction made a herculean challenge for the lead with Jackhammer, closing to a mere half a rooster tail, but it was not to be and Jackhammer rightly took their second win in two days.
