Powerboat P1 has revealed that the reach of its worldwide broadcast deals this season has climbed to more than 200 million homes, with coverage on leading sports and entertainment channels in more than 100 countries across five continents. The international marine motorsports promoter is committed to the long-term development of its key brands – P1 Offshore racing, the UIM Class 1 race series and P1 AquaX jet ski racing - and believes that quality and robust media offerings are an essential building block to expand the sport.
Seven race teams from three continents competed in the final round of the 2023 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship in St. Petersburg, Florida last month. This international fleet reflects the momentum that has returned to the premier class of offshore racing. Powerboat P1 has welcomed new teams this year and further aims to grow the class nationally and abroad with more international teams, worldwide TV coverage and streaming opportunities. All six Class 1 races in this season’s five-venue championship are broadcast nationally on Bally Sports through its family of regional sports networks, and fans can watch Class 1 and APBA offshore national championship racing at three renowned Florida venues on CBS Sports Network.
Powerboat P1 CEO, Azam Rangoonwala (pictured) said: “It’s clear that millions of fans around the world are loving the dramatic, high-speed action and diverse offering of Class 1, P1 Offshore and AquaX. By growing the national and international television audiences and attracting new teams and fans to offshore racing, P1 is delivering significant value to host venues, race teams, sponsors and partners. We have put new strategic relationships in place to showcase our exciting and entertaining sport and to secure new broadcast deals in key territories.”
P1 is currently in discussions with both leading sports networks and non-sports networks in selected markets to further extend the reach of its broadcast distribution. Coverage on leading sports channels includes the United Kingdom and Western Europe, Australia, Singapore, Japan, the Philippines, South Africa, Egypt, Thailand, Malaysia, the Middle East and South America. A significant and strategic move by Powerboat P1 has been the appointment of Dream Bay Entertainment to help build Class 1’s global media strategy and live TV offering.
In October 2020, the UIM assigned to Powerboat P1 the international rights to Class 1 offshore racing in an exclusive ten-year agreement, and P1 has a five-year agreement with the APBA giving it exclusive worldwide rights to film and distribute its offshore events.
